Super Pilates is a strict adherent to the traditional, classical form of Pilates. Despite common misconceptions, Pilates is neither "yoga-like," nor slow. It was always intended to be dynamic, complex and challenging. The Pilates Method was derived from Joseph Pilates' technique of Contrology, or the Art of Control. Pilates recognized that the motor functions of the brain controlled the mobility of the body and hence he formulated a totally unique and systemically complete regimen that "develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit."

Pilates viewed fitness holistically and developed his method as an intensive workout that symmetrically improves the entire body's musculature, even if the practitioner can only move in a very restricted manner.

The key is in concentration. The end result, to which millions of addicted practitioners can attest, is greater power, grace, and a lithe, lean body that has increased resilience to the debilitating effects of age.

Super Pilates is one of the first studios in New York City to use the PPS Deluxe System equipment designed by Peak (www.peakpilates.com). The studio also uses equipment by Balanced Body. Both Peak and Balanced Body are recognized for their top-quality craftsmanship and adherence to Joe Pilates' traditional equipment prototypes.
